Description

• Available from the Tank Supplystation at Rank 2 if the general upgrade was selected.
• Can engage vehicles, buildings, infantry and -if close enough- helicopters.
• Has a long range but a low view sight.
• The peak of USA armored battalions.
• Carries smoke grenades that can render it not visible to the enemy for a short amount of time.

Usage

• It can take out most tanks with two or three shots.
• Should be used to support other vehicles.
• They can shoot at infantry, but that doesn't mean you should use them solely for that purpose.
• They are vulnerable to Anti-Tank missiles, so keep them behind your infantry.
• Use the M60A3 Patton at its front as bait to draw targets near.
• It can shoot at helicopters only if they are very close.
• Smoke grenades are really useful to hide your M1A1 and surrounding units, so use it early to shoot at the enemy while they are still confused.

Against Infantry

Good damage.

Against Tanks

Sabot shells deal great damage to all forms of armour.

Against Buildings

Good damage, but beware of garrisoned Anti-Tank soldiers.

How to defend against

• Anti-Tank missiles can take it out with two or three hits.
• Anti-Tank Soldier is good for the job, but use them in pairs to disallow the tank to fire back.
• Anti-Tank vehicles like the Humvee TOW and BRDM-2 AT-5 Spandrel can make short work of them, but they are vulnerable if faced directly with the M1A1s, so fire at them from afar.
• Base defenses and garrisoned structures are a moderate defense against an M1A1, as it can deal good damage to them.
• In spite of the USA's doctrine, this is actually the best tank in the game with the main gun damage surpassing even the T-80UK at rank IV. Note however, that T-80 ATGM missiles are very good at destroying Abrams.
